Tree Debris Disposal
While the 2025 ice storm in Emmet County has resulted in significant damage, creating various types of debris, Emmet County Office of Emergency Management has designated locations for tree debris disposal. It is important to note that only tree debris (such as branches, logs, limbs, and wood) is allowed at the designated drop-off locations.
Despite the widespread impact of the storm, all other types of debris are strictly prohibited at these drop-off sites. This includes:
- Plants, shrubs, and garden waste (e.g., leaves, stems, flowers, and other non-woody plant material).
- Household or building materials (e.g., roofing, insulation, or other construction debris).
- Trash or garbage (e.g., plastic bags, household waste, or non-recyclable items).
- Hazardous materials (e.g., chemicals, paints, or batteries).
These items cannot be disposed of at the tree debris drop-off locations. Improper disposal of other types of debris can lead to safety hazards, environmental issues, and delays in the cleanup process.
Why is This Important?
The designated drop-off areas are specifically set up to handle tree debris in an efficient and organized manner. Allowing other types of waste would not only slow down the cleanup effort but could also result in contamination of the site, posing potential risks to workers and residents.
Please ensure that only tree limbs, logs, and branches are placed in the marked areas. Any non- tree debris should be disposed of through proper channels (e.g., local waste management or recycling centers).
If you have questions about the disposal of other types of debris, contact the Emmet County Transfer Station at (231) 526-2031.
